Music and culture will take over downtown and midtown Atlanta @ the end of May. Come celebrate the 25th Annual Caribbean Festival on May, 25th beginning on Joseph E. Boone Blvd NW/Simpson St NW and ending with the Festival Village on Martin Luther King Jr Dr SE. There will be food, fun & festivities and the event is FREE. Memorial Day weekend come down to Piedmont Park & enjoy some smooth Jazz @ 36h Annual Atlanta Jazz Festival.

Who is ready for a finger licking, bourbon drinking good time? That’s right, The Beer, Bourbon, and BBQ festival is right around the corner. As you stroll from table to table you will be invited to try the forty different bourbons and sixty different beers on tap. Once you have explored the different alcoholic beverages available, visit the other tents for tasty BBQ that will ignite your taste buds. This great event offers a special experience through buying their VIP tickets which allows you to enter their event two hours early, get access to special tastings of bacon, whole hog BBQ, and give you access to special bathrooms and seating. Once your belly is full, you get access to seminars and classes to learn from the pros on how they cook their BBQ. The festival will open to the general public at 2:00pm on March 2nd to all general admission ticket holders.

For the first and only time in 2013, “Frida & Diego: Passion, Politics, and Painting,” will be exhibiting key paintings by Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. These rare paintings tell the story of an artist during a troubling time of the Mexican Revolution and an inspiring time of the Mexican Renaissance. Frida and Diego’s art shows true passion for their country and cultural traditions of the lower class. Frida’s culture focused paintings gives insight to her personal beliefs and the passion of keeping the Mexican culture during the Mexican Revolution.
This exhibition will feature February 14, 2013 – May 12, 2013 only at the High Museum of Art and this will be the only exhibition in the United States. The exhibition features many paintings drawn from Mexico’s Dolores Olmedo collection as well as Jazques and Natasha Gelman collection of Mexican Art. If you are looking to be surrounded by culture in one of Mexico’s renowned painters in the 20th century, this exhibition would not be one to miss.

Yes, the Honda Battle of the Bands Invitational Showcase is back in Atlanta next Saturday, January 26 at the Georgia Dome. This year, 8 marching bands from Albany State, Alcorn State, Bethune-Cookman, Edward Waters College, Jackson State, North Carolina A&T, Tennessee State, and Winston-Salem State will be showcasing their unique talent and style for all to see.
Usually these performers are the halftime show, but there is a special treat in store for the Battle of the Bands’ halftime. R&B superstar, Brandy will be performing live during the event fresh after the release of her new album, Two Eleven, featuring the hit single, Put It Down. This showcase will indeed be the event of the year.

With only 33 days to go, the GWWC will be filled with more than 1,000 cheerleading squads from all over the nation.
Downtown Atlanta will come alive with activities and special events to celebrate the occasion. Being the host city, Atlanta will be filled with Cheersport banners hanging on light posts and billboards highlighting the most outstanding events of the day. A brand new club called Gatsby’s is putting on a “Masquerade Ball” for New Year’s Eve this year. They are encouraging everyone to dress and awarding the best costume $300. Since prohobition is the theme of this new club, rip out your flapper dress for the new year!
Prefer something a little more low-key? How about heading to Marlow’s Tavern: “starters including Maine lobster and shrimp chowder or the winter tavern salad. The main plate is a grilled veal chop with Canadian milk-fed veal, harvest vegetable and lump crab hash, dried cranberry, beurre blanc, asparagus and cranberry veal demi. The meal is sweetened up with chocolate crème brûlée for dessert.
The meal is $37 per person and is available throughout the evening.”

This is an interesting concept from Halo Lounge: celebrate not by watching the ball drop, instead celebrate by watching money drop…. From what I understand they are dropping $2k from the ceiling and guests will grab as much as they can. The Ochoa Family is probably hoping you’ll buy another round ;-).
